SPEAKERS

MA Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell
Andrea Joy Campbell was sworn in as the 45th Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on January 18, 2023, becoming the first woman of color elected to statewide office in Massachusetts. Raised in Roxbury and Boston’s South End, Campbell overcame significant personal hardship, including the loss of her mother as an infant, her father’s incarceration and later death, and the death of her twin brother while in state custody — experiences that continue to shape her commitment to justice and accountability.
A graduate of Boston Latin School, Princeton University, and UCLA School of Law, Campbell became the first in her family to graduate from college and law school. She worked as a legal services attorney advocating for children and families, later serving in both the private and public sectors, including as legal counsel to Governor Deval Patrick and as General Counsel for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
In 2015, Campbell was elected to the Boston City Council as the first woman to represent District 4, and in 2018 became the first Black woman elected City Council President. Her leadership included advancing the Community Preservation Act, which continues to fund affordable housing, historic preservation, and parks across Boston.
