Legislative Luncheon 2013

The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce will bring Beacon Hill to the Greater New Bedford Area when it hosts the Honorable Robert DeLeo, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives as the keynote speaker at its 2013 SouthCoast Legislative Luncheon on Thursday, April 11, 2013. The event will he held at Cotali Mar Restaurante, 1178 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, MA from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by Southcoast Health System and Southern Mass Credit Union.

Robert DeLeo was elected Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in January 2009. A dedicated public servant to the constituents of the 19th Suffolk District, Speaker DeLeo has undertaken a number of important issues since elected to office. As a 19-year veteran of the House, DeLeo’s vast knowledge of the legislative process and strong relationships with his fellow lawmakers have enabled him to lead the House to meaningful reform.

Speaker DeLeo previously served as chairman of the House Committee on Ways & Means. This critical experience prepared him to navigate the state budget through a challenging economy. Prior to that role, he chaired the House Committee on Bills in the Third Reading, the Joint Committee on Local Affairs, and the House Committee on Ethics. He served as chair of the Town of Winthrop’s Board of Selectmen for nine years and as a Town Meeting member for more than 30 years. DeLeo is a graduate of Northeastern University and Suffolk University Law School.

The SouthCoast Legislative Luncheon is an opportunity for business and community leaders to meet with legislators and hear first hand what is in store on Beacon Hill for the business community. Schmid, William M. Straus and others.
