Joseph Thomas was born and raised on Rivet Street in New Bedford?s South End. Joe?s grandparents emigrated from Lebanon at the turn of the 19th century and his parents and family owned and operated Thomas Dept. Store on Goulart Square for more than 80 years. He attended parochial schools in the city?St. Hyacinthe Grammar School and Holy Family High School?and earned undergraduate degrees from UMass Dartmouth and The Art Institute of Boston.
