Community Leadership Award
One SouthCoast Chamber will present the
2023 Community Leadership Award to Richard Lafrance.
This achievement recognizes an individual who has supported the development of the SouthCoast both civically and economically.
Richard is the chairman of Lafrance Hospitality, currently operating 18 hotel properties and 7 food service and function venues. Their 18 hotel properties reach from Wilton, Maine to Fort Myers, Florida and represent Marriott, Hilton, IHG and Choice brands. They also offer various types of accommodations for leisure and corporate travel and extended stay suites for longer hotel needs. Their independent restaurants are concentrated in the South Coast region and have been serving this demographic since 1955, when White’s of Westport opened on Easter Sunday of that year.
Richard oversees this fourth-generation business along with his sons and other family members and has been able to recruit and retain top management staff to direct the everyday marketing and operations of these many establishments. He cherishes the relationships he has cultivated over these 50plus years of active involvement both with staff and each and every guest.
Being active in the community plays a key role in Richard’s life having served in multiple community boards, chairing key fundraising efforts for the United Way, Bishop Connolly High School, and our area hospitals. He also served as Chairman of BankFive for many years.
Richard graduated from University of Notre Dame, served in the US Army, and participated in numerous industry educational endeavors. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Muriel and together have 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. After completing 8 marathons over the course of the last 30 years, Richard and Muriel are now spending time in their home in Florida where they enjoy playing golf, tennis, and many other leisure activities.
